Betty Update

Apologies..my blog has been pretty lame to say the least.  Anyhow, I'm in full throttle mode now, so let the blogging begin.

A quick update on how the Betty season has been going! Our first tourney of the season was Freestate Classic in good ole' Kansas City!  We saw the usual teams around our area including Missouri State, Arkansas, Kansas State, Nebraska,....  With two losses in bracket play to Missouri State and Arkansas we ended the tourney with 3rd place.  Overall, it was great new home-state tourney and a stellar kickoff to the season!  Our second tourney was Midwest Throwdown (St. Louis) -- one of the best tournaments in the Midwest!  We started in Division I for Saturday pool play games, with a tough line-up of games against Colorado, Iowa State, and Wisconsin.  We struggled to pull out a win for the weekend, but none-the-less it's always a great experience to play teams outside of our area as well as seeing some of the top talent in the nation.

We have two coaches this season -- Tasha Parman and Kristen Klenow!  Both are stellar ultimate players and have been a part of the Betty program for awhile! Tasha is FINALLY back from her PT clinical in Montana and just in time for our big home tournament <Fools Fest> and the college series!!

Currently, we just got back from Centex where we had the liberty of being guest coach by the one and only Cara Crouch!  It was an amazing weekend....and deserves a blog on its own...coming soon!

the beginning

Hey everyone!  So a brief introduction...My name is Christy Cheung and I currently play with the University of Kansas Bettys!  I first started playing with the Bettys during the Fall of 2009 <something that should have happened much sooner!>. I am currently co-captaining the Bettys, along with Sarah Burns & Kay Thomason, and was a part of the 2010 club mixed team, Threat Level Midnight.

alright so here's my story ...
The beginning of my ultimate journey really started in high school with my older cousin, Terry, who was a past Zontal <our men's team>.  He was the guy that introduced me to this sport--which honestly at the time I didn't see what all the hype was about.  ha.

I started my freshman year at KU during the Fall of 2007 and what was the first thing on my mind? ... get on the club soccer team... <ha..i didn't make the team>.  During my Spring semester I realized that I missed sports too much and NEEDED to get on some type of team.  Solution: Rugby.  haha.  Alright, so it was fun no doubt and I made a lot of new friends but after about a season and a half <still unable to tackle a person for the life of me> I realized it wasn't the sport I was looking for.  Going into the summer of my junior year, my cousin finally convinced me to sign up for the local Frisbee summer league with him--this is when ultimate really took off for me!  I met some stellar people that summer and really got my first hand experience of the ultimate community.  I finally decided to give the Bettys a chance....and it's been an ultimate journey so far!
